Books' Benefits!

Would you much rather be playing a video game or watching a movie compared to reading a book? Well, you might change your mind after reading this!

Books' Benefits:

1st: You actually learn a lot of interesting things while reading! Such as new information, new words, new skills that will prove beneficial in the future! For example, if you happened to be stranded on an island in the middle of the ocean, you might be able to filtrate the ocean water into fresh water by remembering something that you might have learned from a book a long time ago! This could actually save your life!

2nd: Better for eyes compared to technology. Though reading for too long is not good for your eyes, it's better than staring at a device or a TV for too long! Devices and electronics generate blue-light which can be bad for the eyes. So after reading this post, you might even want to take a break from the screen! Books don't generate blue-light, thus they don't have a really bad affect on your eyes. But, after reading for a while your eyes can still get dizzy! That is why you should take a break after reading for a while as well!

3st: Develops creativity. You can actually get more creative from reading as well! For example, if you were reading about a character, your mind might form a picture of what the character looks like! But, if you watch the movie, your brain already knows what the character looks like. Thus, it doesn't create a picture. An example could be Hermione, from Harry Potter. If you read the book first, you might have imagined Hermione to look way different than the movie's!

4th: Helps you fall asleep. Believe it or not, books can actually help you fall asleep! Reading before bed is a way for your brain to calm down and prepare to sleep. Reading calms down the brain which gets you a bit sluggish. Therefore, after you put down your book, you fall asleep way faster compared to you watching a movie right before bed!

5th: Stress relieving. Right now is a difficult time. Many people are stressed and need help. Reading actually reduces your stress by letting you think about something else and calming you down. In some cases, it can bring people out of depression! A lot of people find solace in books!

6th: Contributes to a longer life! Yes, readers do live longer! Scientists have studied that people who read has a higher/longer survival rate than those who don't. It can bring a lot of people out of depression and as stated before reduce stress.

There are a lot more benefits to reading! These are just a few. So, maybe you have changed your mind! Now, take a break from the screen... and after your eyes are relaxed, get reading! Don't know what to read? No worries! Checkout our "Books" page on VancouverTogether.com! Have fun reading!
